We always belived that a beautiful sewing machine is useless unless it sews as it looks.

My grandmother, Chiqui, was born in 1921, in a small province in Italy. She started sewing when she was only 7 years old, moved out to Argentina at 18 and began working as a seamstress. Eventually saved up enough money to buy a sewing machine and open up a small wedding dress shop in the neighborhood of San Telmo of Buenos Aires, where you can hear the Tango every day. Over the years, her shop saw itself through many recessions and changes in the economy. Although times were tough, she always made it through and kept the store afloat.

In the early 1980s, my grandma noticed that clients started becoming interested in learning to sew themselves. So she came up with the idea to begin selling sewing machines along with her services. Today, I am honored to continue my grandmother’s legacy. Me, along with my associate, an expert in e-commerce, got together to create a new face for the old sewing shop. With new technology combined with Chiqui’s passion, Lumina was born.
